Meridian Technologies:
Image Focus Plus

Meridian Image Focus+ combines the gains and delays used in Image Focus to correct for off-centre listening with additional corrective delays between the drive units within each speaker. This results in a natural soundstage with accurate left-right placement as well as a sense of depth.

In real-world listening setups the listener can be both off-centre, i.e., closer to either the left or right speaker, and off-axis, i.e, seated above or below the speaker in the vertical axis. Being located off-centre leads to a distortion of the soundstage and in extreme cases can lead to the sound “collapsing” to the nearest speaker. Being off-axis means that the sound from each of the drive units within each speaker reaches the listener at a different time. This is particularly problematic between the tweeter and midrange, and can lead to a very one-dimensional soundstage without any depth.

CHALLENGE

Listener(s) can often be placed sub-optimally both horizontally and vertically with respect to the speakers, leading to a distorted soundstage with a lack of depth.

SOLUTION

Image Focus+ combines gains and delays applied to the left/right speakers with delays applied to drive units within each speaker to correct for off-centre and off-axis listening.

RESULT

This results in a natural soundstage with accurate left-right placement as well as a sense of depth.
